Temple Makeover

24 Dec

Temple University is reportedly spending a billion dollars on projects within the next decade for improvements and new projects on its Main Campus. From KYW 1060:

In addition to building a high rise residence hall, word is Temple will build a new flagship library and add retail space.

Too bad we will all already be graduated, but it will be nice to come back and take a look at the changes.

Apply to be an RA!!

23 Nov

Being an RA takes a lot of effort and time, but is as equally as rewarding!

RC Loida working at Peabody

RC Loida says that being an RA allowed her to develop as an individual.

“It taught me to respect the views and values of others and enabled me to question my own.”

RA JacQueline agrees, and says it’s an extraordinary opportunity to get to know people.

“I knew it would help me grow as a person in a variety of ways,” she explains, which is also her favorite part about being an RA.
“[Being a RA meant] being challenged to identify with people different from myself. Finding common ground is a challenge and a pleasure. My own beliefs have developed because of the constant questioning I must do.”

The RA Selection Application Deadline is next week on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 5pm.

If you are still interested in having an incredible leadership experience as well as getting lots of FREE stuff (Housing, Meal Plan and Book Stipend), then be like

RC Loida and RA JacQueline and APPLY NOW!

Star-Studded Campus Day

20 Oct

For being voted the ugliest city in the nation, Philadelphia has had some hot people visiting today, particularly on

Matt Lauer

campus!

First, Matt Lauer spoke to the journalism department!

Today’s other two guests, however, are a less attractive than Lauer’s 51-year-old abs, but just as controversially hot . David Horowitz and his friend, Geert Wilders are talking tonight at 7pm  in Room 17 of Anderson Hall, on Berks Street between 11th and 12th and are attracting national attention.

But before you judge Wilder, know one thing: those in the Netherlands are some of the most tolerant people in the world. The only people they are intolerant of, however, are the intolerant, such as extreme Jihads.  Wilders apparently groups  all extremists solely under the same religion as Muslim, which he believes is a religion of hate and violence.

Temple’s Muslim Student Association, however, is pissed:

We condemn Temple University for being the first university in the United States to allow Mr. Wilders to address their population and hope that the administration realizes the reputation and ideologies they are fostering not only to the Temple community, but to the world.

Should be interesting.

Room Changes

2 Sep

You will never find the perfect roomate. If you’re best freinds, you are both bound to fight. If it’s a stranger, you’re bound to disagree on things.

You should be like them!

But when it becomes too problematic for roomies to stand each other,  Temple gives its residents the option of a Room change period.

The fall 2009 room change period is September 14 – September 25. Students must go online and complete a room change request and call the housing office beginning September 11 to schedule an appointment.

Just remember, if you do decide to change your room, that means you’re going to have to pack all of your stuff out and move it into your new room. And then unpak it again. So have fun with that.

peabod..PEABODCHUUUUU!

24 Aug

All RAs had to go through an intense week-long training program to learn procedures, how to construct vibrant bulletin boards, create succesful programs, and build a sense of community.

The fun didn’t stop until the very end, however. During the closing session, each building’s RA staff performs a skit.

And Peabody’s staff was hands-down the funniest, most creative, most original performance.

For Peabody’s skit, its hilarious and talented RAs debated what they should be doing– for their skit!

It’s true, Peabody Hall is the original!

Peabody, the first all girls residence hall, is also the oldest standing residence hall. The basement may seem like it is set up very odd, but it was originally a dining hall. Eventually all that changed when the Luis J. Esposito Dining court opens, aka J&H’s Caf. As you will find out, Peabody has had a tradition of some kind of formal dance that they try to hold very year. Its interesting, however, that most residence halls try to hold a dance, but only Peabody is successful every year.

Throwing some Color onto the Palet

23 Aug

Peabody Residential Hall

A week ago, all the walls stood  blank, the bathrooms infested with dirt and the halls smelled stale from the hot summer weather.

But in just a week, the entire building transformed into a comfortable, personable and vibrant residential hall, thanks to its RAs!

The theme for the entire building is Philadelphia. While students enjoy the wonderful campus life that Temple offers, they often forget about the amazing city that they live in. By emphasizing Philadelphia as a building theme, we hope to encourage our residents to get out and explore the city.

To make each floor more personal, every RA chose a niche to create a more personal atmosphere around their respective halls. For instance, the RA on 2nd floor chose to depict foods in Philly, in which his bulletin features tasty Philly treats, like pretzels, water ice, and cheeseteaks.

Nom nom nom! Those door-decorations look delicous!

Nom nom nom! Those door-decorations look delicous!

Another awesome floor chose to set up his floor like Facebook. His bulletin board is the “profile” of Ben Franklin, and asks, what would Ben be doing if in he currently lived in Philly?

I would totally be friends with Ben if he still lived today!

Check out pictures of all our hard work below!

Early arrivals are already signing into the building today; we hope they like all of our decorations!!
